Lots of Hunger and having no food is Poverty,
Not having a spare change of clothes to change into after a bath is poverty,
Needing a shelter and not having one,
A Sick child and, unable to afford treatment is poverty.
A Hungry stomach, a cold body, a bitter heart, an empty home, shoeless feet, tired mind!
Two mouths of rice and three stomachs to feed is Poverty for a hungry mother.

Hesed India is an institution brought about by a group of passionate, and dedicated individuals striving to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
The Kannagi Nagar and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar slums are home to a diverse population, primarily comprising low-income families who have migrated from various parts of Tamil Nadu and other states in search of better opportunities. The area is densely populated, with many residents living in cramped and often inadequate housing conditions. Basic amenities such as clean water, sanitation, and proper waste management are significant concerns for the community.
Many residents of these slums are engaged in informal sector jobs. They work as daily wage laborers, vendors, and in small-scale industries. The lack of stable employment opportunities and low wages are persistent issues, contributing to the economic struggles faced by the community.
The residents of these places face several challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, limited healthcare services, and educational disparities. However, various programs are working to address these issues. Initiatives focused on improving sanitation, healthcare, and education are gradually making an impact, though much work remains to be done.
The people exhibit remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. Their determination to improve their living conditions and the opportunities available to them is a testament to their strength. The community's ongoing efforts to create a better future for themselves and their children are central to their daily lives and aspirations.
In summary, these slums are a place where the struggle for a better life is evident, but so is the community's spirit and hope. The residents' perseverance and the support from various initiatives offer a glimpse of the potential for positive change in the face of challenging circumstances.
